CORONAVIRUS UPDATE
What a crazy Spring it has been so far! Spring weather on the Gulf Coast typically tends to be unpredictable, to say the least. Oftentimes a Spring Break week can be spent in sweatshirts and jeans, daring friends or family members to jump into the cold water. This March had some of the driest, warmest weather that we have experienced in early Spring in a long time. Of course, the delightful weather has not mattered too much with the devastating COVID-19 sickness that has taken a massive toll on the country as a whole.
The goal of our monthly newsletter is to provide you with information regarding all things Caribe Marina. From fishing to watersports, as well as fun things going on in the area, we try to inform you and prepare you for your upcoming trip as best as we can. To focus this April newsletter on these things would seem disingenuous at best. We could talk about the Cobia run, the various grouper seasons that are opening in April, or we could speak to the fun festivals and boat shows that have unfortunately been canceled. All of it seems less of a priority with our current climate and overall concerns.
While Orange Beach and Gulf Shores have not seen many cases of the virus as of the writing of this newsletter, we have seen a massive impact on our economy. Many businesses strictly rely on approximately five months of visitors to the beaches, and to experience a shut down as we have recently, puts the future of many local establishments in the balance. Our thoughts and prayers go out to all that are affected by this terrible virus, both from a health and economic standpoint. We hope that this passes quickly, and our lives can return to normal soon.
Here at Caribe Marina, we are making decisions to the best of our ability regarding our next steps. We are focused on caring for our amazing staff of dedicated employees who have become our family. As of right now, we are continuing to operate within the guidelines that were set by the Governor of Alabama. We continue to see recreational boaters enjoying the outdoors with their families, and we are working to provide them with the fuel that they need for their boats. Most of the condo/vacation management companies are working with guests to reschedule or cancel trips, and Caribe Realty has been at the forefront of this movement.
We have had several repeat customers that have reached out to us to see how we are doing and how they can help our small business during this time, and for that, we are very grateful. We are doing fine, but genuinely miss everybody that we are used to seeing each Spring. In response to these requests, we have started to offer gift cards available for purchase.
